Meredith Tangen, head of the business department at West High School, was selected to receive an Iowa Association for Career and Technical Education Award (ACTE). The award was presented at a special ceremony at the Iowa ACTE Conference on June 23, 2015 at the FFA Enrichment Center, Ankeny, Iowa.
The award recognized Career and Technical Education teachers with 3 to 5 years of experience at the middle, high school, or post-secondary levels who have made significant contributions toward innovative and unique career and technical education programs and shown a professional commitment early in their careers.
Ms. Tangen was nominated for this award for her professionalism in representing her school’s business program within the high school and in working with local industry leaders to arrange job shadow opportunities for students, an annual Financial Literacy Fair, and other community partnerships designed to offer students opportunities for problem-solving and collaboration. She has shown creativity in her classes and looks to the future when developing new classes, especially in collaboration among several departments.
