High School Students Win Awards at IHSPA

Congratulations to our high school  journalism students for winning awards at the Iowa High School Press Association’s Fall Conference at the University of Iowa on Thursday, October 23rd!

North High “bookies” won 21 individual awards (of which nine were coveted First Place awards) and took Second Place overall in the Fall Yearbook Contest. Nine students traveled to accept the awards and to attend sessions, help facilitate sessions, and compete in on-the-spot competitions. Way to go, Wildcats!

Central High students also came home with awards for last year’s publications. All are listed below by category and award, and the classes (B and C) are determined by school size.

In the Newspaper category: Spring Newspaper Contest Sweepstakes Graphics, Class B, 2nd Place.

In the Yearbook category: Fall Yearbook Contest Sweepstakes Class C, Honorable Mention; Photo Illustration, 2nd Place (Danielle Nauman, Colin Hawkinson, Sarah Kersten), 3rd Place (Selena Flores), Honorable Mention (Danielle Nauman); Infographic, 3rd Place (Selena Flores, Danielle Nauman, Sarah Kersten), Honorable Mention (Danielle Nauman, Sarah Kersten); Student Life Design, 3rd Place (Danielle Nauman); Environmental Portrait, 3rd Place (Nathan Lane), Honorable Mention (Nathan Lane); Organization/Performance Writing, Honorable Mention (Hailey Smith); and Closing Spread, 3rd Place (Danielle Nauman and Selena Flores).

West High students also earned some really nice awards related to last year’s yearbook. West’s winners were Chelsey Davis, 3rd place in Organizations Performance Photography; Jassenda Zamora, Honorable Mention in sports action photography; Danielle Vasquez, Honorable Mention in sports action photography; and Tiffani Johnson, 3rd place in Academics photography.
