“Brittany’s Gifts” Recognized as Outstanding Youth Group

Honors students from Davenport North, West and Central were honored as the Outstanding Youth Group at the Nov. 20 National Philanthropy Day luncheon hosted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals QC chapter. These students raise money each year to support local children with disabilities in an effort called “Brittany’s Gifts.”  The group was originally organized to honor the memory of Brittany Manders, the daughter of North High business teacher Jeff Manders and his wife, Linda. Brittany passed away in 2008. The students conducted trivia nights, auctions and doughnut sales.  Proceeds from these events were donated to the Scott County Family YMCA and the Handicapped Development Center. On hand for the awards ceremony were, from left,  Bre Peterson, Melissa Trimble of Davenport Community Schools, Tina Wallace of North, Hannah Herington, Troy Gipple of North National Honor Society, Linda Manders, Angela Staber of North High School, former West principal Nancy Jacobsen and former North principal Jane Artman-Andrews.
